Glossary of hypnotic terms

Fractination

A good method of deepening the state of hypnosis, by hypnotizing a person, having the person open eyes, but not emerging from the state, then closing eyes; each time with a suggestion of going deeper each time the eyes are closed.

Somnambulism

The deep working state of hypnosis in this state the eyes may be opened without waking. Complete amnesia may result. Positive and negative hallucinations may be induced.

Induction

The process or technique used to hypnotize the subject.


Deepener

The process of deepening the state of hypnosis to get to a good level of working


Secondary gain

A secondary gain is a reward someone greats from having the symptom.

Catalepsy

A form of rigidity in muscle groups through suggestion. “Arm rigid, cannot bend. Eyes stuck tightly, cannot open.”

Ideomotor

Involuntary movement of muscles produced by an idea or suggestion of relaxation or tension.
