What happens when you have hypnotherapy?
I provide a high quality professional service which will enable us to work together to enhance your social, business and personal skills and competencies.
I aim to support you in achieving your goals for career, health, wealth, relationships and any other areas you would like to work on.
I will do everything I can to make sure your therapy is effective.
But I cannot do everything for you. To get the best from any form of therapy, you need to be motivated and willing to complete the homework tasks between sessions.
MY VALUES
Confidential, professional, ethical and effective therapy .
FREE INITIAL CONSULTATION
I offer a free initial consultation with no obligations, usually lasting 20-30 minutes.
This will give you the opportunity to find out if hypnotherapy is right for you, to ask questions and to discuss anything you feel may be relevant to your problem.
It is important to feel comfortable and at ease with your hypnotherapist and the free consultation will allow you to find out if I’m the right therapist for you.
PRE-SESSION
Prior to your appointment, I will send you a pack of information which includes:
1) A letter confirming your appointment details and some useful information to read prior to your appointment.
2) A questionnaire for you to complete so that we can spend more time on the therapy and less on information gathering in our first session.
3) An audio CD with two or three tracks depending on the issue you want to address.
a) Track 1 explains how hypnosis works and some of the things we may do during a session.
b) Track 2 has some facts about the issue you are coming to see me about.
c) Track 3 is a self-hypnosis session for relaxation so that you can learn how to go into trance and contains suggestions for relaxation de-stress and confidence building which you can use between sessions. This will also mean that you will find it easier to go into a deep state of hypnosis when you come to see me and we can spend less time on an induction and deepener, and more time on doing therapy.
YOUR FIRST HYPNOTHERAPY SESSION
The first session will start by talking about the information you have provided on the questionnaire so that we can organise a strategy to treat the symptom and any other underlining dynamics of that symptom.
The first session usually lasts up to two hours to facilitate rapid early change in the symptom, and to gather enough information to assess which techniques and strategies will be best to deal with the underlying dynamic of the problem.
Some problems may be dealt with in a single session, but others may take several, depending on their complexity. Although, compared to traditional psychotherapy, hypnotherapy takes a lot less time to resolve most issues because hypnosis works with the unconscious mind.
After discussing the strategy, the hypnotherapist will answer any questions you may have about hypnotherapy or your issue.
This part of the session also helps to loosen up the cement of the problem and most people see their problem differently, even before the hypnotherapy starts.
THE THERAPY PART
Once I have the relevant information and have answered any questions you may have, it is time for the therapy part of the session. Sometimes I ask the client to sit in a recliner chair so that they can be more relaxed while hypnotised.
I’m not sure how you will feel while being hypnotised because everyone is different, but most people feel very relaxed. Your eyes may be closed and you may hear everything that is going on around you and the sounds will fade into the background as you pay attention to my voice.
Some therapists use sound systems with headsets for the client to wear so that anything the client or the therapist says can be recorded clearly, and so the voice of the therapist is enhanced and background noise is not heard.
In the first session, the hypnotherapist will normally use suggestion therapy to help you to go into trance faster and deeper on each consecutive induction, and will also give you some suggestions and techniques you can use to relieve stress and to build confidence.
You may also get suggestions to reduce the severity of the symptom or to change the symptom to something more positive.
Most clients come to therapy because they have a clear symptom, for example, stress, panic attacks, phobias, lack of confidence etc which are all symptoms caused by underlying issues. The more specific the problem, the quicker and easier it is to treat, and the more generalised, the longer it will take.
For example, if someone has a fear of spiders but no other insects, then in most cases, it will only take one session to treat. But if it is claustrophobia, it can take more sessions because the phobia is more generalised.
Because it can take between 6 and 10 sessions to work through the underlying cause, I like to work on the symptom and the cause so that some relief can be seen from the very first session.
SUBSEQUENT SESSIONS
In subsequent sessions, the symptom and any underlying issues will be worked through, using a variety of techniques. This will mean the problem is permanently resolved and any other issues that are related to the problem are taken care of.
BETWEEN SESSIONS
Between sessions, you may be asked to carry out tasks that will help you to embed behaviours outside the therapy room which is where the real benefits will be seen. The homework will be discussed in the session and I’m always available to help if you have any questions between sessions.
COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE
If for any reason you have a complaint about any hypnotherapist, you can make a complaint to the associations of which they are a member. This is why it is very important to do your research when choosing a therapist to work with.
FEES
Payments are to be made at the end of the session either by cash or online by using Paypal.
My fees are as listed on the fees page and are a guide.
I do give discounts for people on low wages so please ask. As long as I can cover my costs, I will give therapy to anyone, regardless of how much they can afford to pay.
These reduced rates are normally at off-peak times, so please contact me for more information.
Please only ask for a reduction if you really need it – e.g. not working, a student or for exceptional circumstances.
My normal fees allow me to give discounted rates to those people who would otherwise be unable to attend therapy.
Fees are payable one session in advance .
APPOINTMENT TIMES
I work to a 50 minute session so if a little extra time is needed to complete the session I will give it.
Please bear this in mind should you find yourself waiting a few minutes longer to start your appointment.
I appreciate your patience, and will be with you as soon as possible.
INSURANCE
I hold full professional liability insurance.
DATA PROTECTION
I follow the guidelines and abide by the rules of the UK’s Data Protection Registrar.
